United 4 Change: Forseeing Ways for People To Become Partners in Sustainable Development

Launching a new social change organization is never easy. But knowing you have gotten the encouragement for your work from a former US President can’t hurt.

Ximena Murillo Vera, a recent masters graduate of the University of St Thomas recognized and received an award at the Clinton Global Initiative in 2009, for the design of a new initiative in her native Bolivia to work on the health and betterment of families in that nations poor mining communities. Working in cooperation with family and friends there she has worked to create community centers for 1500 women in 10 impoverished mining communities, providing education and training that advances the women’s condition so they can become literate, independent, and further empower their families.

But not content with that initial taste of success, Murrillo Vera is now formally expanding upon that idea through a new nonprofit called United4Change – the Center for International Development and Global Citizenship, which is having a formal launch at a public event this Friday, August 10th at 7:00pm at The Tasting Room (1101-18 Uptown Park Blvd. Houston, TX 77056)
