Wednesday, amid some purr and circumstance, Houston Mayor Anise Parker declared that the city’s BARC Animal Shelter and Adoption program has qualified to join ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. This campaign pits 50 cities against one another in a bid to outperform their previous year’s adoption.
The effort will continue through October 1st, and BARC has set a goal of finding new homes for 2,100 pets, roughly 623 more than the same period last year. To launch the campaign and awareness effort, the city agency will be holding a mega adoption event this Saturday, August 4th from 12-Noon to 6:00pm, at the 3200 Carr Street facility (Houston 77026.)
And given an Olympic theme it will be complete with its own opening ceremonies, adoption partner parade and torchlight ceremony begining at 1pm. Hundreds of pets will be available at a reduced adoption fee, $20 dogs/puppies and $10 cats/kittens.
