The Texas Hearth Institute at St Luke’s Episcopal marks it’s third decade saving lives. Founded by pioneering surgeon Dr Denton Cooley in the 1980s, after the advent of anti-rejection drugs that made transplants easier, the center has now done over 1200 of the procedures and foresees a future involving more temporary heart pumps that assist patients own hearts in healing.
