While much has been reported about the ongoing debate to raise the national minimum wage, at least one Houston employer is doing something about it. The Houston Independent School District (HISD) has announced plans to raise the wage for those school employees at the lowest paid wage scale. This will impact about 1400 school employees, and cost about $4 million. But the predicted impact on the families it supports (many who are parents of children in the district) is more telling.
