Every year the Houston Police Department respond to over 25,000 calls involving someone in a mental health care crisis. And while the city and county sheriff’s office have long had a partnership with mental health officials through the Crisis Intervention Response Teams, on Thursday HPD announced the formation of their own dedicated department to deal with this growing issue.
