While Houston’s crime rate has been dropping noticeably for several years now, Tuesday news of two unrelated murders in our area really leave us wondering what is becoming of some of our neighbors.

Baby Kidnapped From Fatally Shot Mother Found Safe (KHOU 11 News)

An infant who was kidnapped after his mother was fatally shot at a Woodlands-area pediatric center was found safe Tuesday night, officials said.

An Amber Alert was issued for 3-day-old Keegan Schuchardt after Kala Golden was shot multiple times at the Northwoods Pediatric Center located in the 25000 block of Borough Park Drive.

Deputies said a woman got out of an ice-blue, four-door Lexus at about 3:40 p.m. and shot Golden about seven times. She then fled with the baby northbound on Interstate 45 from Rayford Road, investigators said. Golden was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands where she died.

Keegan Schuchardt was found in the 1900 block of Sugar Pine at FM 1960, which is where a relative of the shooting suspect lives.  As police were questioning a woman in connection with the case, the baby was headed home to be with his father and brothers in Spring.

Four Teens Accused of Killing Homeless Man For a Dollar
(Tony Freemantle, Houston Chronicle)

At first, it appeared Miguel Ramos lost his life over a cooked chicken and a bicycle, which would have been senseless enough. But it was money the four teens who robbed him were after, authorities said, and they left Ramos to die in a dark northwest Houston alley after shooting him and taking everything he had – a single, torn dollar bill.

Ramos, a 32-year-old homeless man who worked hard when he could find it and drank beer with a group of other homeless men who hung out along a gritty stretch of Hempstead Highway near the intersection with 34th Street, wasn’t a target on the night of April 4.

The four teenagers who were charged with capital murder Tuesday in the slaying were looking for prostitutes to rob that night but couldn’t find any, police said.
At about 10:30, heavily armed and cruising around in a dark green Honda, they happened to see Ramos at Tezzie’s Mesquite Grill, a food truck parked on the corner, and figured if he was buying a chicken, he would have money. They were wrong.
