While a state record might be broken this Sunday as more than 500 lock arms to create the largest human ribbon in Texas history, the most significant part of the event will be the awareness it brings to human trafficking in the Houston area.
Matt Woodfill, pastor at The Way Church, located at 24418 I-45 South in Spring, said he hopes to get more than 500 to lock arms at 6 p.m. Sunday in front of the church to bring attention to the issue. Woodfill said Houston is the “No. 1 hub for human trafficking” in the country, and he hopes the churches in the community will gather to help address the issue, which they are calling “The Cause.”
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice anywhere,” said Woodfill, quoting Martin Luther King, Jr. “If we don’t do something about it, then it’s a threat to justice.”
Cheryl Briggs, a member of The Way Church for about 10 months and a human trafficking victim herself, said 2,000 children in America are reported missing every day and while half of them are found after 31 days, many are victims of human trafficking.
