Kelsey-Seybold to Pay $1.9M for Botched Surgery

(Rita Garcia/KRIV 26 News)
A jury has ordered the Kelsey-Seybold Medical Clinic and a doctor to pay $1.9 million for botching a woman’s surgery.

Because of that surgery, Lauren Williams now lives with a permanent colostomy and suffers from permanent injuries. Williams said those life-long injuries have crippled her aspirations.

“I use to be a vibrant person, you know?” she said. In August 2008, Williams went into Kelsey-Seybold for a hysterectomy with the understanding that Dr. Benge would perform her surgeon. But when she went under, another resident came in and performed at least 50 percent of the surgery without her knowledge.

After the anesthesia wore off, she said she was rushed into emergency surgery.
