After the state legislature failed to pass polices on pay-day lenders who many accuse of preying on low-income citizens and the ‘un-banked,’ Mayor Annise Parker moved forward on her own proposed ordinance for Houston. The proposal comes to a vote Wednesday, however, the city council members may postpone voting on the bill until the new year using a little known procedural tactic in the council rules.
Now if only those impacted by these practices could do that with their bills.
