Houston-area health care institutions have won the largest percentage of funding in the state over the last two years from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas, and they are using the money to attract top talent and create new jobs.
Houston leads the state in obtaining these funds — 41 percent come to the Bayou City. Officials from several institutions in the Texas Medical Center believe that is due to the high number of institutions in the area, but they also concede they aggressively pursue these research dollars.
