Employers, Educators Work to Bridge Skills Gap

It seems paradoxical. The local unemployment rate is 8.6 percent, yet many companies can’t find the employees they need. And it’s not just Houston.
…High-tech, manufacturing and professional service providers reported the most difficulty, according to the survey of 2,280 randomly selected human resources representatives in a wide range of industries. Engineers, high-skilled medical and technical workers and scientists are the hardest to find.

One way to reduce the mismatch of skills and job[s] is for employers to coordinate more closely with educators, said Catherine Mosbacher, president and CEO of the Center for Houston’s Future.
