Suburbanization of Poverty: National Trend Hits Houston

It was not that many years ago that “inner-city” could be assumed to be a euphamism for poverty. Now though, cities like Houston, are seeing a larger growth of poverty in their suburbs and outer rings. A new study by the Brookings Instutition paints a complicated list of reasons – from immigration to greying neighborhoods. And organizations that serve Houston’s suburbs, such as Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) are feeling that pinch.
