The Center for Safe and Secure Schools has launched its re-designed website. The website which went live on Jan. 24, 2013 is a school safety resource for school districts, parents and the community. Information featured on the site focuses on educating the public on topics of safe schools as well as establishing the Center as a go-to place for best practices.
The Center for Safe and Secure Schools (CSSS) is a division of Harris County Department of Education. Set goals of the center include being a leader in developing increased safety and security strategies in school environments for students and educators. Accomplishing these goals depends on focusing on the four stages of emergency management which include: mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. Services include setting standards for best practices; emergency management planning and operations; communications, coordination and business continuity; training and certification programs; and facility safety and security assessments, reviews and audits.
“While school campuses are often considered the safest places children can be, the reality is that educators need to review how they will continually plan for, respond to and recover from all-hazard events that may occur on their campuses,” said HCDE County School Superintendent John E. Sawyer.
“Ever-evolving state and federal laws require schools to have multi-hazard emergency operations plans,” Sawyer said. “The Center offers guidance for planning for the inevitable emergencies that school districts may face.”
