For Good! Neighborhood Centers Launches Campaign for Those Who Make a Commitment to Serve Houston

On this weekend, when so many thoughts are focused on how to honor the life of Martin Luther King via community service, its a good time to point out the new For Good initiative of Houston’s own Neighborhood Centers, Inc.

Every day, people in this very community are doing more for others. They’re building stronger, better homes for the homeless. They’re teaching invaluable lessons for those looking to learn. Every day, they’re working for better, brighter, safer, happier futures. And every day, they’re going largely unnoticed.

Neighborhood Centers wants to change this by recognizing those people and selecting the Four. For Good. — a group of individuals who embody the For Good movement. The For Good movement was started by Neighborhood Centers, Houston’s largest nonprofit, to inspire people to make commitments to improve their communities.

For more than a hundred years, Neighborhood Centers has been working to bring out the best in communities through education, infrastructure, economic opportunity, connection, housing and health. Now, the organization wants others to do the same.

“There is nothing more powerful than a community in touch with it’s own aspirations. Behind our aspirations are always the people. It’s people who realize the potential to turn around challenging situations and create an abundance of opportunities. When these everyday heroes among us commit and turn that into action, amazing things happen,” said Angela Blanchard, Neighborhood Centers President and CEO. “We want people to really think about what they can do to better the lives of those around them, and in turn start a wave of good deeds — an entire movement of people transforming communities for good.”

The Four, For Good, will be announced on Wednesday, February 27, at a community celebration hosted by Neighborhood Centers in conjunction with Mayor Annise Parker and other leaders from across Houston at the Urban Harvest City Hall Farmers Market.
