Last week during the Republican presidential debate, several leading candidates were asked questions about childhood vaccines and the belief some have about a connection to autism. It was not a discussion that illuminated anything as far as a Dr Peter Hotez, of Baylor College of Medicine, was concerned. As a leading international expert on vaccines, and as a parent of an autistic child himself, he feels this moment could have been used to help clarify things. However, it instead only contributed to more confusion and a proliferation of bad information.
