High-stakes testing has long been a source of consternation for parents and students. But teachers have their own issues with it also. This was underscored heavily this week as seven Houston-ISD teachers launched a lawsuit against the district over the use of the controversial EVAAS rating system – a complicated, and somewhat secret forumla which relies on test scores and other undisclosed factors to rate them for raises, promotions, and termination. While the case will no doubt take many years to decide, others around the nation and state are sure to be watching it.
