While a new community outreach focus the Houston Astros announced on youth baseball is admirable, and mission focused, the team is surprisingly pulling out of a long established partnership with the Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC). The 23 year old Black Tie & Baseball Caps gala, which had been the charity’s leading fundraising event (earning over $250,000 last year alone), will be no more as the Astros new ownership shifts the team’s philanthropic focus. HAWC will now be left looking for other ways to support its free services to battered and abandoned women.
