Bucking trends, and at times leading them, seems to be a growing Houston tradition. While much of the nation was hit hard by the onset of the recession we have been comparatively spared. Entering the downturn late, and leaving it early.
And now, while much of the nation has gone into a declining birth rate, we seem to be growing in births.

And while growth from births is one factor in Houston’s growth, the growing number of new arrivals via immigration is pushing the cities demographic picture in ever more amazing ways. Or as Rice University’s Stephen Klineberg has often said, leading the rest of the nation to what we are all becoming.
