On Thursday evening, Neighborhood Centers Inc, Houston’s largest nonprofit, opened it’s doors at it’s Baker-Ripley Center to about 300 would-be community job seekers.
Originally expecting an audience of 150, organizers were enthusiastically surprised to see a large turn-out of individuals eager to meet and network with agency executives, senior management members, key program staff and other representatives.
During the course of the event, attendees heard from Angela Blanchard and the agency’s leadership team about Neighborhood Centers’ growth, accomplishments and need for additional staff. Before breaking off to talk with department heads, attendees then had the opportunity to pose questions about a vast array of NCI programs, ranging from youth arts, community gardens, and institutional fundraising among others.
“We want people to learn more about the opportunities to be a part of an organization that is transforming communities for good,” said Andrea Gillis, Director of Human Resources at Neighborhood Centers. “Whether you have worked in the non-profit, corporate, or other professional industry sector, we want you to take a closer look at us. Houston is one of nation’s leading cities for opportunity and talented workers. Our current team of more than 1,200 staff reflects that talent and we are looking to grow.”
“At Neighborhood Centers, we have a dynamic setting where people can apply their experiences in finance, community development, project management, accounting, technology, information systems, human resources, marketing, fundraising, management, and more.” Gills said. We need people who want to contribute to a great mission and who seek career advancement in order to make an impact on our success. Neighborhood Centers is a challenging yet very rewarding place where staff can continually learn and grow and be part of a changing Houston.”
