Ann B. Stern will become President of Houston Endowment on March 1, 2012, following the retirement of Larry Faulkner.
Stern is currently Executive Vice President of Texas Children’s Hospital. She also serves as a director of the Houston Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
Houston Endowment is a private foundation created in 1937 by Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones. The foundation annually distributes around $75 million to support nonprofit organizations and educational institutions serving the greater Houston area. It is the largest foundation in the state of Texas.
Houston Endowment Board Chair Anthony W. Hall, Jr., said, “We are very fortunate that Ann Stern will assume this role at Houston Endowment. Her talent, passion, and character will help continue the exemplary leadership the foundation has enjoyed.”
“One of the things that has always made Houston a great city is the strong spirit of giving in its people. Houston Endowment is the finest example of that spirit that I can think of,” Stern said.
“What a privilege to have the opportunity to lead this remarkable organization, working together with an outstanding board of trustees and a talented, dedicated staff. I look forward to deepening my understanding of the community and to supporting the people who make a difference each and every day, as we continue to ensure that Houston Endowment has the greatest impact possible.”
Stern joined Texas Children’s Hospital in 2003 and was promoted to Executive Vice President in 2008. She manages a range of clinical operations and administration, including the hospital’s recent entry into maternal and women’s health and the development of the Pavilion for Women. She also led the development of the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute, the world’s first basic research institute for childhood neurological diseases.
She earned a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She chairs the board of St. John’s School and is a former president of the Junior League of Houston.
