As Chyna Young comes to terms with what they call the new normal at TIRR Memorial Hermann, her month-old daughter, Jaida, is embarking on life in the ICU at Children’s Memorial Hermann, several blocks away. The only link between the two: an iPad with Facetime.
It makes her both happy and sad. “Because she’s not with me,” said Young. “And I think I can’t run after her when she gets older because I’m in a wheelchair, and I’m not going to be able to crawl with her. It just makes me wish I had my old life back.”
