If you noticed number of big-rigs and box trucks seemed to be a bit heavier along I-10 Friday, you might be surprised to learn that a lot of it was for our own Houston Food Bank. The center which for nearly 30 years has helped provide assistance to food pantries, shelters, and other social services who help needy families has outgrown its old warehouse. So this week it opened a new center at 535 Portwall, with a grand kick-off.
Volunteers and donors came out in big numbers to work with staff in getting the new place opened and by taking in over 1-million pounds of new donations from area merchants and food suppliers. Furthermore the Mayor and entertainers welcomed visitors to the new modern building and wished everyone well as they got started in better serving the 18 county region served by this local organization.
