While Houston is going through a tough drought, policy makers, scientists and humanitarians are meeting in Stolkholm, Sweden for the annual World Water Week conference focused on the global water issues. Recently Reuters/Alertnet sat down with Joan Clos, UN Undersecretary General and head of UN Habitat, for an interview about global cities challenge for dealing with water crisis of the next 40 years.
The UN Population Fund and Water Integrity Network estimates that by 2050 city dwellers will make up more than 80 percent of the global population, which by that time is expected to expand to 9.3 billion from 7 billion today.
Don’t expect that to be good news for traffic on the Southwest Freeway.
