As the Texas legislature works through a possible fix to a host of problems at Texas Children’s Protective Services, many are still asking if the proposals are what the agency needs. And more importantly, is it what Texas children deserve.

Embattled President of MD Anderson Steps Down

After more than five years of administering the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Ron DePinho is calling it quits. While acknowledging failures in his own leadership, that have contributed to recent budget problems and layoffs, the President of the University of Texas affiliated institution said it was time to let others take over management. Chancellor McRaven of the the UT-System has asked Dr DePinho to stay on through the end of the current legislative session which will end in May.

Line for the Bathroom Bill:

Texas Senate’s First Hearing Draws Huge Crowds

Crowds rivaling anything seen for a bathroom at a big event turned out in Austin on Tuesday for the Texas Senate’s first legislative hearing on the proposed ‘bathroom bill’ Senate Bill #6. Transgender Texans, their families and advocates came from around the state to express their feelings on the legislation into the wee hours of Wednesday. Very few public comments were from advocates for the legislation, still the Senate committee approved the bill to move to the Senate floor.
