First Day of School Marred by Protesters at HISD’s New Arabic Immersion School

Launching a new magnet school is always exciting and challenging, but facing protesters is not usually part of the script. Yet opponents of the Houston’s new Arab Immersion School met students and parents outside as they sought to take their children – all Pre-K and Kindergarteners in its first year – into classes on the first day. This first in the nation program though vows to continue, citing the prevalence of Arabic speakers in the city, and the historical business links with Arabic speaking nations.
