Recently the Houston Better Business Bureau gave us the Wise Giving Guide. But now they offer some essential tips for dealing with Cyber Monday. Tips, that we will point out, that are just as applicable for online giving this holiday season, as they are for shopping.

10 CYBER-MONDAY SECURITY TIPS:

  1. Protect your computer.
    Update your computer software operating systems, browsers, anti-spy and anti-virus ware.
  2. Use known and secure websites only.
    Look for “https” in the URL when making a purchase. The s at the end is vital. It means the site is secure.
  3. Protect your personal information.
  4. Be careful of deals that sound too good to be true.
  5. Look out for “phishing” scams.
    Beware of people seeking information from you by personal contact, rather then your calling on them first.
  6. Make sure you are on a secure network.
    Unprotected wi-fi spots may leave you vulnerable to spying.
  7. Use a credit card instead of other forms of payment like a debit card.
    Because charges in error are disputable on credit cards.
  8. Save any documentation of your order. 
  9. Check your credit card statements regularly.
    Make sure there are not surprises on your account which may indicate others using your number.
  10. Know your rights as a consumer.
