Local Youth Group Uses Social Media to Reach Teens Considering Suicide

Annually over 8 million individuals attempt or consider suicide, and about 16% of those are high among youth. Last year, after an area youth from Lamar High School committed suicide with few apparent clues for his parents and friends, they have helped launch an effort on Facebook entitled the Sunshine Project to try to reach others before it is too late.

The Sunshine Project is an organization dedicated to showing that there is hope and you can find help if you are struggling with depression, self-injury, or suicide. If we can stop one person from going through with suicide, we feel like we have done our job. “Don’t make a permanent solution for a temporary problem.”
