Is it Getting Hot or Is it Just Our Texas Climate Scientists?

Top right: Texas State Climatologist John Nielsen-Gammon, Top Left: Texas Tech prof Katharine Hayhoe who has been target of a anti-science harassment campaign; Bottom: Folks showing their love for climate scientists.

Okay, we can’t resist a funny title. But in serious response to the continued confusion and politicization of climate science – almost always by non-scientists – a Houston event and a Valentine’s Day connected campaign are worth taking note of this week.

For Valentines Day awareness, and to counter an alarming number of social media harassment efforts targeting climate scientists like Texas Tech’s own Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, the I ♥ Climate Scientists effort is the brainchild of several environmental organizations. Complete with a Facebook page and Twitter hashtag (#iheartclimatescientists) the campaign simply asks you to “Like” it in social media or  add a pic of yourself showing your appreciation for the scholarly work these people do monitoring and reporting our Earth’s changes.

Closer to home on Thursday, February 16th at 6:30pm, Houston Tomorrow is hosting a talk by John Nielsen-Gammon, the Texas State Climatologist. A professor at Texas A&M, Dr Neilsen-Gammon will speak about the climate impacts and drought we have been been dealing with here in Texas and offer an outlook into the distant future. To RSVP or to get more information visit the Houston Tomorrow website.
